Concerning Findings Regarding Patient Care at Manorcare of Wilmette From State Nursing Home Surveys
According to the data gathered from the nursing home surveys conducted by the Illinois Department of Health and other survey agencies, there have been noticeable signs of abuse and neglect at the Manorcare of Wilmette, which can be construed as nursing home negligence.
This prompted Rosenfeld Injury Lawyers LLC to review the data compiled by ProPublica –a nursing home survey organization—and we found out that the following experiences by patients –outlined below—, can be interpreted as situations of nursing home negligence:
- Failure to develop infection control interventions: “R7 has left knee [MEDICAL CONDITION] infected with M.R.S.A ([MEDICAL CONDITION]-resistant Staphylococcus Aureus). On 4/27/11 at 9:30 am E2 (Wound Care Nurse and Nursing Supervisor) stated, “He’s (R7) in contact isolation.” R7 has careplan with focus titled, “MRSA infection of wound at Left Knee.” Under interventions is listed: “maintain precautions as indicated.” Careplan does not specify infection control precautions staff should be following.”
- Failure to establish coordinated communication and care for residents receiving hospice services: “R10 is a resident admitted under hospice Medicaid. R10’s medical record documented that the last Physician visit was on September 15, 2011. E6 (Registered Nurse) was asked regarding physician visits. On May 10, 2012 at 9:50 am in the second floor, E6 states that the facility coordinates with the Hospice nurse and the Hospice MD, but did not know when the physician had last seen R10. The medical record shows documentation of hospice staff in the facility last on April 10, 2012. E6 was also asked regarding the nurse visits. E6 states the hospice nurse came to the facility on [DATE] and that the notes should be on the medical record. Per hospice protocol, a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) comes three times weekly as documented on the medical record. No documentation regarding care by the hospice CNA was noted on R10’s medical record.”
