In addition, State Highway 41 parallels I-94 to its east, while State Highway 45 parallels it to the west. Illinois Routes 22, 60, 83, 120, 132, 173 and 176 offer travelers access to east and west locations.

Residents and visitors can travel in and out of the public Waukegan Regional Airport (UGN), situated just 35 miles north of downtown Chicago. In addition, the county is home to the private Campbell Airport, southwest of Grayslake and private Air Estates Airport between Mundelein and Wauconda. O’Hare International Airport is 33 miles away from downtown Waukegan, and Midway International Airport is 60 miles away.

Lake County is part of the Pace transit bus service offering paratransit and 21 fixed routes throughout the entire county. In addition, residents and visitors can use Call-n-Ride in the Vernon Hills-Mundelein and Round Lake area. This shared-ride, reservation only transportation option is available to the public, with door-to-door service within a designated area.

The Metra Metropolitan Rail is also available throughout Lake County on four commuter rail lines and 32 stations. Commuters can take the Union Pacific / Northline, the North Central Service Line, Milwaukee District Northline, and the Union Pacific / Northwest line. The Metra operates seven days a week throughout the Chicago Metropolitan area.
