Attorneys for Patients Mistreated at Champaign Urbana Nursing & Rehabilitation
Every resident in a nursing facility is there to enjoy the rest of their life in a safe and comfortable environment. Unfortunately, many of the facilities are understaffed, or staffed with medical professionals lacking proper training or those that simply do not have the best interest of the resident in mind. As a result, many Illinois nursing home residents are victimized by their caregivers and suffer serious harm and injuries through neglect, abuse and mistreatment.
Our team of dedicated nursing home abuse case attorneys serve as legal advocates to protect the rights of Illinois nursing facility residents. - Failing to Properly Assess a Patient Was Falling on the Premises:
- Failure to Answer Call Lights in a Timely Manner:
- Failure to Report an Allegation of Sexual Abuse:
In a summary statement of deficiencies dated 12/13/2015, a complaint investigation was opened against the facility for its failure “to perform a comprehensive resident assessment for [a resident].” While the resident was originally admitted to the facility because of a fall experience at home resulting in fractured femur requiring surgical repair and hospitalization, upon admission to the nursing facility, no documents could be presented to the surveyor showing a fall risk assessment. Upon questioning, the Director of Nursing stated “we do not have a completed Admission Assessment Checklist for the [resident’s involved].”
In a summary statement of deficiencies dated 11/10/2015, a complaint investigation is opened against the facility for its failure “to address residents need in a timely manner when the call light was activated for [2 residents].” This is in response to an observation where a resident’s “call light began alarming” at 6:40 AM on 11/7/2015. Four minutes later, an LPN (licensed practical nurse) and RN (registered nurse) “look down the hall at the call lights and continued to count narcotics on the medication chart.” It took 38 minutes for the LPN to answer the resident’s call light.
In a summary statement of deficiencies dated 10/02/2015, complaint investigation was opened against the facility for its violation of failing to “immediately report an allegation of sexual abuse to the state surveyor and certification agency for [a resident].” This is in response to an allegation that an “unknown male certified nursing assistant (CNA) grabbed [the resident’s] breast and kissed [the resident] good night on the cheek.”
